No Mopars!

Postby Sneke_Eyez » Fri Apr 26, 2013 11:24 pm

I always like this thread topic for Mopar forums. I find this tough usually, since I really only want to drive Mopars, but inevitably I find out that theres someone out there who likes the same Brand X car I do...

So, if there were no Mopars at all, no Dodge Brothers, no Walter P. Chrysler, what would you drive for a:
Current Daily Driver (to replace what you drive now)?
Muscle Car?
New Car (If you bought a non Mopar right now, what would it be)?
Truck (again, to replace what you drive now or to augment your fleet)?

I realize some, if not most of us have driven or do drive something that isn't a Mopar, but you can play along anyway!

For me it would break down like this:
As my current Daily Driver: Probably a 1998-9 Oldsmobile LSS, or a 2003+ Ford CVPI/Mercury Marauder.
Muscle Car(s): 1966/70 Chevelle, 1966 Nova, or a Jensen Interceptor (assuming they still built it without the MoPower).
New car: 2014 Mazda 6, 2014 Ford Mustang [shudder], or a 2014 Subaru BRZ. And I'd probably at least take a look at the 2014 Chevy SS, even though I think its quite boring.
Truck: 1995-1996 F150/F250 longbed regular cab/1960s era Chevy C10/20.

So what would you drive if there were no Mopars?

I get to work on all makes and models so as a bonus I get an idea on what is what.
I currently have a GM truck that has been more than fair to me.
I've also had an 81 GMC stepside in the past that was very good to me as well.
Hands down a GM truck would be my 1st choice in a non Mopar world.

Cars are tougher to pick. I'd probably pick up an old pontiac, buick,or some off the wall Ford product (old Galaxy or Fairlane?)that would accept a 460. Maybe even a wild small block vega or pinto concoction.

A replica of the Two Lane Blacktop '55 Chevy. I might even be inclined to trade my Bee in for a proper replica of that car. It's boss. Scary, I know.

And if I had not bought my 68 Charger when I got out of college, the alternate choice was a 67 GTO. I still think they look tough.

A Grand Narional or GNX would be fine too. Or a Porsche Spyder like James Dean had. "Little Bastard."

Can't say I'm overly impressed with other "modern" American makes.

My wife's former Camry was very reliable, and her Highlander treats us well now.

I asked my wife years ago what it would take to get her into old cars. She said a yellow, 69 Camaro convertible.

Gulp.

Cha-Ching...

I guess if there were no Dodges to drive. I would need a Porsche 911 for my sports car.
My daily driver would be a Ford pick up.
My muscle car would need to be a split window Vette.
My weekend family car would be an old extra long convertible Cadillac or a convertible suicide door Lincoln.
And finally my kit car of choice would need to be a factory five Daytona coupe.
Wow looking back at the list I just made is a pretty tall order. I better start playing the lottery soon.

A bathtub Porsche would be a cool ride too.

I posted a eBay link for a replica of the TLB Chevy on the TLB forum site. I was surprised that the response over there was lukewarm at best. I didn't realize the crowd was a little particular about things being 100%, dead-on perfect for a replica. If it's not 100% faithful, the thought is it shouldn't be done at all.

Guess that's why I hang out here a lot more!
