Bolt on Hemi Hood scoop

Postby MPerry » Sat May 18, 2013 12:40 pm

I'm planning on cutting a hole in my flat hood and want to mount a 68 Dart style Hemi hood scoop.

Anyone familiar with which brands are good and which to steer clear of? I like the one in the article from Mopar Muscle Feb 2012 but $270??? :o

You get what you pay for. What about fiberglass?

Yeah I understand but that is about 1/2 the price of a glass hood and doesn't include shipping (which I assume is truck freight)
That scoop is glass AAR. ;)

I have used both Glassteck and VFN, both custom hoods both very high quality and reasonably priced.

I would stay away from AAR, he make a nice quality piece but he sucks to deal with.
I bought a flat hood and hemi scoop from him in English town years ago, he told me the hood would ship as soon as he got back to his shop. (this was in June).
I canceled the order the following October, it was always another excuse the hood was damaged coming out of the mold or it fell off a work bench in the shop.

He gave me a hard time about refunding my money , he charged my credit card the day I placed the order and then when I canceled he wanted to charge me a fee.

The sad part is, if he was honest and just said he was busy I would have been ok with that, I didn't need the hood until the car went into the body shop in January!
I think both Glassteck and VFN offer a hemi scoop.

Kevin reminds me of all the hassles with Year One on my six pack hood. Supposedly the most accurate, according to six pack guys. But I got two sent to me that we're busted and had other problems. Sometimes buying parts is just no fun.

Year One is probably an AAR hood. Anything you find in yearone is available else where cheaper. Think of them as a convenience store for muscle car auto parts.

Convenience in how quick I could get it too. Too bad their packaging was shoddy at best.

If I remember right, the six pack crowd said the hood available through YO was more accurate than what AAR carried.
